January 13, 2010. The first demonstration of light wind powered flight. Using the Wing 4 platform, Makani demonstrates that it is possible to remain in flight using modest amounts of power to drive the wing mounted turbines.

August 17, 2009. Makani demonstrates fully autonomous high-speed flight with a rigid, tethered wing.

Februrary 6, 2009. Wing 1, Makani’s first rigid wing prototype, demonstrates tethered, autonomous hover at Makani’s development facility in Alameda, CA.

December 12, 2008. The flight path of the kite is highlighted with a computer controlled spotlight at midnight during one of Makani’s 30-hour, extended duration autonomous flights on Maui.

Makani headquarters in Alameda, CA. The world’s energy shortage can only be solved by a combination of technology and conservation. Half of Makani’s employees bike to work, which creates a happier shortageâ€â€too little bike parking.

July 6, 2009. Davenport, California. We have created some of the most sophisticated simulation tools in the industry, but our results are demonstrated through rigorous testing in the field with real hardware in real conditions.
